Exchange Visit to Kisumu, Kenya
The half term break provided an exciting opportunity for Miss Gledhill who has just returned from a cultural exchange visit to schools in Kisumu, Kenya.
Sirius Academy will be a place where individuals grow and communities flourish; a place where students and community work together to achieve the highest levels of learning and understanding of the world.
This academy will inspire excellence and innovation, achieving and supporting individual success and leading the way in the future of education.
We will inspire learners to raise aspirations by nurturing every individual's talent to ensure that every student shines. Sirius Academy will encourage, engage and enrich the lives of its learners.
The project is run by the British Council and encourages schools and academies to enhance pupil understanding of cultural differences and lifestyles by means of collaborative work with partnership schools in Africa. Miss Gledhill said, “I was very moved by the pupils in Kisumu, who, despite their adverse conditions and lack of resources, had huge ambitions and a keen desire to learn.” She added, “My next step is to make a greater impact at Sirius by introducing whole school collaborative and cross curriculum projects, focusing on communication, culture and environmental issues. These activities will allow our pupils to interact with pupils overseas as well as deepening their global awareness.
